Fashion Attack! DKNY’s 2013 PRE-FALL COLLECTION

“Sand to sidewalk” is how DKNY’s pre-fall lineup was described in the press notes, and those hues — mostly black, white, stone and cement…” (wwd.com) This pre-Fall collection is a mix of masculinity and femininity, hard and soft, sexy and demure. What can get better than that? The best aspects of this collection? The mere fact that all of the pieces very versatile. You can get a million wears out of anything that is in a neutral color such as black and white. These items may be pricey but when you calculate cost per wear for years to come, it may be worth it.

This past Saturday, a group of my colleagues and I headed to Mexico City from our little town of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico to celebrate the birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps. Mexico City is an amazing city with so much personality! I did take some pictures but I wanted to share two pictures of me in my gown during the Ball.

What I Wore:

  • Free People Dress
  • Shoes: BCBG
  • Vintage Jewelry

I am in love with Mexico City and I am already planning another trip ASAP!

I learned the amazingness that is Aldo Rise sometime early last year. Ever since then I have been obessed. I purchased my first pair of Aldo Rise Preen for ALDO RISE Paider Sandal a couple of weeks ago and I think they are a work of art!

I love the structure of the heel, the careful leather detailing, the fringe along the back, the ankle strap…swoon.

My newest obession is the ALDO RISE JW Anderson for ALDO RISE Eakins Sandal. I have not been able to find it at all.

J.W. Anderson ALDO Rise Eakins Stiletto Heeled Sandals

I love the pop of color, the white string detailing, the fuzzy back detailing. The shoe is weird and lovely at the same DAMN time.

If you find these shoes in a EUR 40 or US 10. Please let me know! You wouldn’t want to make a fashion girl suffer for no reason would you?

Since neither of us could go home for Christmas this year my sister came down from New York and we celebrated the Holidays in DC. This past Friday we wanted to go out and experience something new, so we SHAMMED! SHAM is a mash-up party. Various DJs, fashion, dancing, live music, good people in a warehouse/loft in DC. This is what my fashion forward sister wore!

What She Wore:

  • Necklace: From the Accra Art Market
  • Earrings: unknown
  • Dress: Thrifted
  • Shoes: BCBGeneration (gifted to her by me, I also own a pair!)

Fashion Attack! Fun Fashion to Start the Week

Sometimes looking forward to the beginning of the week can be painful, but I always try to do something to make Monday fun. Today, I decided to wear my Charlotte Russe leopard flats and a cocktail ring I purchased at DC’s Eastern Market.

What do you do to make the beginning of your week more enjoyable?

This past weekend I attended the National Black Accountants Annual Holiday party with my boyfriend. Weird, we kind of look alike in this picture. I guess 3 years and the same haircut will do that to you. The party was amazing because it was on a yacht. I’ve never been on a winter yacht ride so I enjoyed my experience.

This picture was taken a year ago. Because I have increased my weight lifting routine I’ve trimmed inches from my frame but maintained my same weight!

What I Wore:

Earrings: Aunt’s Shop in Ghana

Dress: Vintage. Gifted to me from my mom

Shoes: Not Shown. BCBG

Earlier this year, a wonderful little 12 pound poodle was given to me by my cousin in Denver. I didn’t know that such a small, fuzzy, overly excited dog would bring my family, friends, and I so much joy. Everytime I leave home and I am gone for 5 minutes or 6 hours I recieve the same greeting. Maxi jumps on me, makes a high pitch squealing sound, he barks, runs in circles, wiggles in my arms, and wags his tail so hard I think it may fall off. No matter how bad my day he always makes me feel loved.

Also, Maxi is wearing a sweater from the Martha Stewart pet collection that is currently on sale at Petsmart. It says “loyal”.

Don’t worry, Andrew (my boyfriend of three years) I still love you just as much as Maxi :)

Do you have a pet that brings you joy? If not, you should! Happy Friday everyone!

A couple weeks ago I attended an event at the National Museum of African Art, Smithsonian Institution called Africa Undeground in Washington DC. Africa Underground is an after hours event at the National Museum of African Art where the public gets to enjoy the museum’s stunning exhibitions and features performances, dancing, light refreshments and drinks.

The inaugural event highlighted the creativities of mixed-media artists Sandile Zulu (South Africa) and Henrique Oliveira (Brazil) presented in the exhibition Artists in Dialogue 2. The event also featured African beer, Brazilian cocktails, performances by Zezeh Brazil Samba and afro-brazilian beats spun by DJs Adrian Loving, DJ Munch and DJ Underdog.

I had my face painted at the event.

My Uncle and I.

Me! I had so much fun.

What I Wore:

  • Top: Had my aunt’s seamstress make it for me. It was my own design.
  • Skirt: Express Bandage Skirt
  • Shoes: Michael Kors
  • Necklace: H&M
  • Earrings: From my Aunt’s shop in Ghana
