Fan does not accurately describe how I feel about Talib and Black Thought. If you search Music Monday on my blog the majority of my choices have been related to hardcorp rap. However, I have a huge love of what I call “concious rap”. Rap that has a meaning, that addresses social ills, that is about something.

My love for hardcorp rap is because it is good music to workout and dance to.

Check out the new tracks, “Art Imitates Life” and “One Two”. Get into to it. Rap is not one dimensional.

Happy Humpday: “M.I.A” by Omarion ft. Wale

I’ve really renewed my love of all genres of music as of late. Classical, punk, ska, hip hop, jazz, afropunk, all of it!

I’ve really just went for it and dove into the music. To me music is not just the lyrics, or the beat (although the beat really makes a huge difference to me), but the way the song makes me feel. Every song I listen to invokes a special feeling, a spiritual movement, or brings back a memory. As for this song, it reminds me of my love affair with Washington, DC. The song reminds me of sexy after hour spots of U and H streets in DC where I used to dance with boys, drink strong drinks, and have the energy to do it all again every night of the week.

How does this song make you feel?

Happy Friday: Nas “Bye Baby”

Directed by Aristotle. I am headed to a lovely, quiet, resort out of town. Happy Friday!

Music Monday: Frank Sinatra “The Good Life”

I have a wide array of my favorite music artists but Frankie S. ranks as one of the highest! Frank was a jack of all trades but he Francis Albert “Frank” Sinatra, was best known as an American singer and film actor.

Enjoy his music and I will leave you with one of my favorite Frank Sinatra quotes:

“People often remark that I’m pretty lucky. Luck is only important in so far as getting the chance to sell yourself at the right moment. After that, you’ve got to have talent and know how to use it.” —Frank Sinatra

Pusha T and Tylerm the Creator worked together, to create the track, “Trouble on my Mind.” The track by this unlikely duo is featured on Pusha’s Fear Of God 2: Let Us Pray

The latest interpretation of Drake’s most recent tune, “Marvin’s Room.” This version is sort of electronica inspired, I dig it.

Drake did not state that this was an official track off his next album but just “another piece of the story.” Don’t worry Drake fans his sophomore album, Take Care is scheduled to release on October 24th. Download it for free here.

“New song “Marvin’s Room,” a nearly six-minute drunk dial set to slow-burning synths and a gorgeous piano outro…”—PopDust
