What I Wore: Revisiting 1983 Diplomatic Glamour

This past Saturday I went to a colleague’s 1980 themed birthday party in Ciudad Juarez. I really wanted to get into character so I put on one of my mom’s suits that she gifted me last year.  I added a wig that I have had for awhile (it desperately needs to be styled), some of my favorite springtime pumps, a whole lot of gold jewelry, a Kate Spade top handle purse and one of my favorite scarves that I found at a Washington, DC clothing swap.

I thought it would be appropriate to dress up as a woman who would have had the same diplomatic career as I have now, but with a twist of 1980s glam. I stayed in characted the whole night and even picked another name, Barbara Willingsworth.

What do you think of my look? I think it screams 1983 working woman.

What I Wore: United States Consulate Ciudad Juarez 2013 Starry Night Holiday Gala

This past Saturday, my little baby came to fruition, the Consulate’s Holiday Gala. I love planning social events so when this oppurtunity to plan came up in September, I knew I had to get involved.

The event was hosted at a large event hall in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, featured an open bar, a catered meal, live choir music, a DJ that catered to American and Mexican music tastes, and a photo booth.

What I Wore:

Dress from Free People

Ring: From a Jewelry Maker in Santiago, Nuevo Leon, Mexico

Cuff: Gilt.com

Earrings: Lulu’s in Washington, DC

Picture 3 is me and my love, Marco.

What I Wore: Perfect Sunday Afternoon at the El Paso Moutain View Tramway.

I am trying to do more nature activities. While Ciudad Juarez and the El Paso area are not internationally known for their beautiful views, there are certain things about this border town that I love. One of which is the El Paso Tramway. From the Tramway, visitors can see three states and two countries. I was going to go by myself this past Sunday, but then decided to invite two friends along. It was the perfect Sunday activity. I plan on taking more visitors there!

What I Wore:

Dress: H&M

Necklace: Purchased from Mexico

Boots: Nine West

Purse: Vintage

What is your favorite Sunday activity?

After living in the land of far West Texas and Mexico, I decided two months ago, it was time to purchase my first cowgirl boots. Every year, my employer has steak dinner at a well known ranch. I was super excited to go for the first time but I did not know what to wear.

The day of the event, I had to cross the border to go to the mall. I popped into Forever 21 to see if they had anything that caught my eye. Much to my surprise I found a pair of cowgirl boots!

I even won the best dressed cowgirl contest.

What I Wore:

  • Hat: Purchased from a beach vendor in Puerta Penasco, Mexico
  • Dress: Urban Outfitters
  • Boots: Forever 21
  • Earrings: Purchased in a jewelry boutique in Juarez, Mexico
  • Sunglasses: Amazon.com

The second picture features the best dressed cowboys and cowgirls! Happy almost weekend!

Apparently, Spring and Summer are going to be my traveling seasons! This weekend, I am staying in Mexico and I am so excited just to sleep in. Anyway, last month I headed up to Santa Barabara, CA for a dear friend’s Bachelorette Party. It was fabulous. 20 women and I rented a house on the beachfront, danced, went wine tasting, and ended the weekend with a night on the town.

I bought this dress from ASOS a while back because I thought it would be a great dress to wear on my birthday. However, it turns out it was perfect for a Bachelorette Party! When I purchased it, it was was way too big. However, I took it to my amazingly affordable tailor here in Mexico. Now, the dress fits like a glove!

What I Wore:

  • Dress: ASOS Midi Dress with Holographic Embellishment
  • Shoes: Micheal Kors
  • Earrings: CZ by Kenneth Lane

At approximately 6:00am this morning, I was told by a friend that I have not done an outfit post in a minute. It is just that I have no one to take pictures for me. Tonight I am going to take more! I will just enlist my boyfriend to help me. We do have a crossfit and a movie date tonight…

Anyway, these pictures were from about a month ago when my siblings were in town. The Saturday we went out was literally all THINGS. We drank cucumber vodka, all of us BROs all weirdly enough wore peplum body con something or others, and high heels.

OUTFIT DETAILS:

  • Dress: No designer brand. Purchased at Ross (my first body con dress)
  • Necklace: Nazar Designs
  • Shoes: Micheal Kors

I swear I am going to do more What I Wore Posts!

This past Saturday, a group of my colleagues and I headed to Mexico City from our little town of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico to celebrate the birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps. Mexico City is an amazing city with so much personality! I did take some pictures but I wanted to share two pictures of me in my gown during the Ball.

What I Wore:

  • Free People Dress
  • Shoes: BCBG
  • Vintage Jewelry

I am in love with Mexico City and I am already planning another trip ASAP!

My boyfriend and I attended Africa Underground and I decided to wear my favorite Boxing Kitten x Urban Outfitters dress.

What I Wore:

Dress: Boxing Kitten

Earrings: Vintage

Purse: Wallis

Shoes: No Name

Dress: Urban Outfitters (It has pockets!) If you buy it, it is cheaper in-store.

Shoes: Crocs

Necklace: Bought in Quito, Ecuador

Hat: Target

What I Wore:

When is the last time you’ve seen a grown women wear jellies?

I just realized I never put these pictures up! I love vintage dresses and I think I had this dress for a couple months before I actually decided to wear it. I ended up wearing it on one of the hottest days in DC which is why my face is dripping with sweat (aka summer glow). Despite my sweaty face, I loved the dress so much that I thought I should debut it on the blog!

What I Wore:

Dress: Vintage via etsy.com

Earrings: Forever 21

Shoes: Target (It’s not like you can see them!)

What I Wore: Nice Day for a Indiana Wedding

I revel in planning an outfit for a special occasion. Call me vain, egotistical, or whatever else, but I think of dressing up as a form of artistic expression. Good style transcends price or brand name. This past week, I headed to Bloomington, IN for my linesister’s wedding. I loved being back in good old Indiana!

What I Wore:

Dress: Calvin Klein

Cuff: Banana Republic

Earrings: From India

Shoes: Deniblack

Ring: Charlotte Russe

When it comes to clothes I usually need one of these descriptions involved: short, black, and backless. It is rare when I find a piece that fits all three pre-requisites!

The Playsuit with Mex Tex Embroidery is now $37.28. It is the perfect piece for a chill night out! I wore it during a night out to Lost Society DC. My favorite aspect of the playsuit are the sleeves! They are light enough for a hot night out but can still protect you from bug bites when you venture out to rooftop parties.

I paired the outfit with my favorite strappy Michael Kors Sandals and Forever 21 Feather earrings.

Ever since I returned from my two week trip to Ecuador last month, I have been thinking about how to properly display the beauty of this necklace I purchased in Otavalo. I bargained the price down low enough from a women with a jewelry stall near the main market entrance.

I decided to pair the necklace with a dress I purchased from a Australian company, Wallis. My necklace is from the Artisanal Market in Otavalo, Ecuador. My bracelet is from the Accra Art Market.

Isn’t my little poodle the sweetest?

Saturday evening I stopped by Barcode for the 8 Vintage Launch Party to support local DC Bloggers Krystin and Denisio. Since the weather was nice I figured I would take a walk on the wild side with my basically see-through blouse!
